A lovely part of planning
There are plenty of decisions to make for a wedding, but choosing cake flavours can be a particularly enjoyable one. My postal sample boxes contain six selected flavours to try together at home. They let you compare favourites without needing to make the whole decision during a consultation.
You can find the current sample box details on the Cakes & Pricing page and browse the full flavour menu before choosing. If you are ready to order, get in touch to discuss the available sample dates. This article is a guide to enjoying the tasting, rather than a promise of a particular dispatch date.
Give each flavour a fair chance
Choose a quiet moment when you can pay attention to the cake. Follow the storage and serving instructions supplied with your box. Start with a small taste of each flavour, then come back to the ones you enjoyed most. There is no need to finish every slice in one sitting.
Notice the whole mouthful: the sponge, filling and how they taste together. A flavour can sound appealing on a menu but another may become your favourite once you try it. Keep a few simple notes so you can remember which slices stood out later.
Compare without turning it into homework
If you are tasting as a couple, try noting your favourites separately before comparing. You may agree straight away, or discover that you each love something different. Both are useful results. A shortlist of two or three favourites is often easier to work with than a strict ranking of all six.
Think about what you would enjoy eating on the day. You do not have to choose only the most familiar flavour, and you do not need to predict every guest’s preference. Choosing something you both love is a good place to begin.
You can choose different tiers
Each tier can have a different flavour, so two favourites do not have to compete for the same place. Once we know the size of your cake, we can discuss how the flavours fit into the design and how it will be served.
Mention allergies or dietary requirements before ordering samples or confirming your cake. We can discuss what is possible rather than assuming that a particular flavour suits everyone. When you have tasted, send me your favourites and any questions; I will help with the next step.
