A celestial cake beneath the castle stars

Deep navy, hand-painted constellations and golden details: a closer look at a celestial wedding cake design.

Navy celestial wedding cake with gold constellations at Ruthin Castle

A different kind of romance

A wedding cake can be romantic without being white, floral or softly coloured. The celestial design in my Gallery takes its character from a deep navy finish, hand-painted constellations and gold details. It is a useful starting point if you love a little drama but still want a cake that feels considered and elegant.

The photograph shows the cake at Ruthin Castle. Rather than telling an imagined story about the couple, I want to look at the design itself: how colour, decoration and setting can work together, and what you might take from it for your own wedding.

Let one idea lead

With a theme as distinctive as a night sky, the strongest approach is to choose one clear idea and give it room. A dark background makes the lighter markings visible, while gold brings warmth. The balance comes from leaving some of the surface quiet, so the decoration feels intentional.

You do not need to carry a theme into every detail of the wedding. A cake can hold one personal reference beautifully. Bring me a colour, a pattern or an image you love, and we can discuss how much of it belongs in the finished design.

Think about the backdrop

A darker cake deserves a display where its outline and decoration can be seen. When we discuss a design, a photograph of the proposed cake table is often just as useful as a photograph of another cake. The wall behind it, table linen and nearby flowers all change the overall impression.

Talk to your photographer and venue about where the cake will sit and when it will be photographed. It is easier to consider the display while planning than to discover on the day that the details are disappearing into a busy background.

Make the inspiration your own

You might love the navy and gold but prefer a simpler arrangement, or enjoy the constellation detail in a different palette. The purpose of the Gallery is to show possibilities, rather than ask you to choose an exact copy.

For a wedding in North Wales or Cheshire, send me your date, venue and the elements that caught your eye. We can begin with those and shape a cake around the atmosphere of your own celebration.
